The Arizona Police Association announces new Executive Director

The Arizona Police Association (APA) announced that Dale F. Norris was retained as the new Executive Director. The APA is a statewide coalition of police labor organizations that focuses the political efforts of its seventeen member groups representing over 6,000 federal, state, county and local peace officers.

Dale Norris, a retired Phoenix police officer, attended Arizona State University College of Law after his retirement and has been working as an attorney in the Law Offices of Michael Napier since graduating. The law practice focused on police labor and employment where Mr. Norris had many successes representing the interests of peace officers before personnel boards and in the courts. Mr. Norris states he is now looking for new challenges.

Mr. Norris said, “I believe peace officers are the most necessary element to a free and democratic society, but they are also the least represented in the political processes they defend with their lives.” He went on to say that the very officers who protect society need to participate in fashioning the laws they will enforce. “We, as officers, know better than anybody what is needed, what works and what doesn’t. We have real life and death experiences with the issues.”

Mr. Norris also believes peace officers must work together to protect their pay, benefits and working conditions. “Without the peace of mind that comes with financial security for themselves and their families, these brave women and men cannot focus on their difficult and highly dangerous jobs.”

Mr. Norris will take over from Brian Livingston, a former peace officer who retired after being shot while apprehending a bank robbery suspect. Mr. Livingston was highly successful in his efforts at the legislature and moved on to a management position in state government.
